Many times we eat emotionally, we remember food that we had when we were little and we idealize it because it nourishes our physical and emotional body. It’s nice to have that breakfast that makes you feel like it’s a special day, that it’s not just nourishing the physical body but the emotional body too.
However, emotional eating is also binge eating at the end of the day to disconnect from life, or gorging yourself to fill an emotional void. Compulsive eating to escape or fill an emotional void can trigger an eating disorder.
What do we eat for?
To generate energy that allows us to maintain our physical and cognitive abilities.
· To build the quality of blood that can be alkaline or acid. If it is kept in its natural state, that is, slightly alkaline (with blood PH above 7), it will be protected against diseases because it will create an unfavorable climate for viruses and bacteria.
This is the function of food, to nourish our physical body. But do you know the different bodies we have? The physical body, mental body, emotional body and spiritual body. The physical body needs food and drink; the mental body needs cognitive stimulation and creativity; the emotional body needs to recycle emotions and the creation of positive emotions that elevate the vibration; the spiritual body needs connection with oneself and personal knowledge.
The emotional body
The emotional body is a body that many people fear, probably because as children we were not taught to relate to emotions and we have created the habit of hiding them.
We can’t see the emotional body, but we can feel it. And when it is out of balance it can alter our physical and mental functions, therefore it alters our lives. The great disease today is the lack of emotional management. How much many of us suffer for so many years because of all the memories and emotions that we are keeping in our system? Generating depression and anxiety. How many crazy things happen around the world due to a lack of emotional management? From the man who kills his children to get revenge on his wife, to co-worker who makes your life miserable, etc.
At the end, it has nothing to do with others, but with ourselves. So why do we insist on ignoring and forgetting the emotional body?
In this article I am going to focus on the relationship between the emotional body and food, because many times we eat to fill an emotional lack and not to nourish our physical body. Do you want to learn the difference? Stay until the end.
What does emotion means?
From Latin “emotion” = movement.
In English E-motion = Energy in motion
It is an energy in motion that can build us or destroy us.
Types of emotions
Positive emotions: Enjoyment, freedom, love, appreciation, passion, enthusiasm, hope, optimism, joy.
Negative emotions: Boredom, pessimism, frustration, irritation, impatience, overwhelmed, disappointment, doubt, worry, guilt, discouragement, rage, anger, shame, revenge, hatred, jealousy, insecurity, guilt, indignation, fear, pain, depression, helplessness, victim.
Where do emotions come from?
Emotions are born from our thoughts, that is, the interpretation we make of what surround us. Which are based on the beliefs we have about ourselves, formed by the experiences that have marked us throughout our lives.
So how does information get to the brain?
Information to the brain comes through the senses. Sometimes, the interpretation of the information can be correct, but many times it is incorrect and misinterpretations occur. Therefore, we must be prudent. Normally, a person tends to interpret everything that happens in a negative or positive way, depending on his character and the way he lives life.
Emotions produce changes in our facial expressions, muscles, voice, nervous system activity, and endocrine system activity.
Sometimes emotions hide with food
Montse Bradford says “We may have spent years with emotions blocked inside us that affect our overall health. Emotions of excess or deficiency, but trunks after all full of past events that no longer exist, but that still control our lives.
To start the emotional cleansing process, we must be open to listening to our emotions, not to cover them with food, drinks or negative habits. We must have enough courage to open our box of worms, understand why they are still there and purify ourselves of the beliefs that have formed the emotional block.
We do not know how to nourish our emotional body, to give it its breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. We forget that he also needs food on a daily basis, but emotional food, not physical. And we remain intent on feeding him chocolate cake or stuffing him with physical food when we feel emotionally unbalanced. But remember that the emotional body has no digestive system, no teeth, no stomach. It is a vibrational body, so any physical food will not help you at all to remedy your problems. But since the way to listen to them, nurture, honor and care for them is unknown, we continue to see a multitude of unstable, blocked, hungry emotional bodies.”
What kind of food satisfies your emotional body?
Enjoying music, rooting yourself in nature, renewing yourself with sea water, looking at the sky on a starry night, expressing yourself through painting, capturing magical
moments with photography, enjoying happy family moments, feeling a network of support around you and trusted friends, hug your pet, play with your kids, take time to just listen to your favorite music, dedicate time to your hobby, visualize and feel the life you want to create. Can you think of other activities that satisfy your emotional body? I would love to hear from you.
One of the causes that makes us forget about our emotional body is the lack of awareness or presence in our own life. Many people live attached to the past, other to the future, or to the past and future at the same time, creating processes of depression and anxiety, but few feel the power of the present and live in it.
There is also a certain fear of knowing it, a lack of courage to uncover what has been buried for years, or it may also be due to inflexibility and rigidity. Our mind controls us, it self-sabotages us by blocking emotions and creating toxicity in our being.
How to recycle emotions?
Just as we recycle the information we no longer need from our computer, we must do the same with emotions.
Many times we do not want to face them due to ignorance, because we were not taught how to do it. Or out of fear, since their power scares us by not having expressed them for so long.
When we feel unstable, low in vibration and with intense feelings, we must have the courage to look at them, to get to know them, to see what they want to tell us, to discover what lesson we can learn from this energy in motion, purify it and let it go with light and love.
There are many weak and intoxicated physical bodies because of their blocked emotional bodies. Eating compulsively, eating to fill an emotional void, or continuing to eat that food that we know makes us feel bad, is a sign of disharmony within us, it is giving us information that if we take advantage of it will lead us to grow. If we don’t listen to the information we are going to stay stuck and suffer, repeating patterns and cycles. Probably disgusted with ourselves.
Remember, if you have a negative relationship with food, if you have an eating disorder, you can learn to nourish yourself with the foods that best suit your body. In addition, you will need to dedicate some time to yourself, discover your memories of lack, heal your past, rebuild your image and your future. So you will have a better one because you deserve it.
